Description

REQUIREMENTS

Education:  Master’s Degree in an approved program which qualifies for principal certification with the state of South Dakota.  Current, valid South Dakota Teaching Certificate.

Experience:  Minimum five years of teaching experience at level pertaining to assignment.  Previous administrative experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:  Constant hand-eye/mind-eye coordination.  Frequent walking, keyboarding, speaking, writing, bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, sitting, stooping, and turning.  Some lifting up to 30 lbs.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.


Other Requirements:  
Knowledge of the best educational practices and effective school research at level of assignment.  Excellent communication, strategic planning, problem solving, organizational, time management, conflict resolution skills, and computer proficiency.  Ability to keep information confidential.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

  1. Responsible for the daily management and operations of assigned building.
  2. Enforces district policy, school guidelines, state and federal laws, and administrative directives; administering discipline when appropriate.
  3. Manages the hiring process for certified and educational classified staff; assigns staff accordingly.
  4. Responsible for supervision and evaluation of certified and educational classified staff.
  5. Coordinates student orientation.
  6. Develops school schedule.
  7. Promotes and supervises an effective instructional program consistent with the district’s curriculum.
  8. Monitors student achievement and works with teachers to improve student performance.
  9. Assists with curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
  10. Responsible for administering building budget and demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
  11. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with parent organizations, community members, civic, service, and professional organizations.
  12. Plans and conducts staff and department meetings to include staff development.
  13. Responsible for the security and safety of students and staff.
  14. Attends and supervises student activities.
  15. Attends required meetings and prepares required reports.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.
